WHO
IS ELIGIBLE AND WHAT DOES IT COST?
Receiving health care at home can be more cost effective and more pleasant
than being in a hospital or a nursing home. You may be eligible to receive
some or all of your home care services under the Medicare program.
You are eligible to become a Medicare beneficiary if you meet any of the
following conditions:
- You are 65 and older.
- You are under age 65 but qualify as disabled.
- You have end stage renal disease.
Eligibility for home health care services through Medicare depends on
whether:
- You are
homebound (you cannot leave your home without assistance).
- Your
condition requires one of these skilled services:
- Intermittent
nursing care
- Physical
Therapy
- Speech
Therapy
- Occupational
Therapy
- The above
services are medically necessary and ordered by your doctor. If you
meet these conditions you will be eligible for the Medicare Programs
home health care services.
- In many
cases Medicare will pay for home health care expenses ordered by a doctor.
Additional costs may be covered by private, long-term insurance.
